Quick answer
- Want a solid chair for about $2,000? Look at entry 3D chairs such as the Human Touch WholeBody 8.0 ($1,999 on humantouch.com) or the Osaki OS-Pro 3D Tecno ($1,999 on titanchair.com).
- Want more features for $4,000–$6,000? This is where 4D rollers, SL-tracks and lots of air cells show up, e.g. the Osaki 4D Emperor II ($4,499) or the Panasonic MAF1 ($5,999 at Furniture For Life).
- Shopping premium ($10,000+)? Compare the OHCO R.6 ($9,999), Human Touch Super Novo 3.0 ($11,999), Luraco i9 Max Plus ($13,490) and Bodyfriend Pharaoh NEO ($14,990).
- Very tall or heavy? Check the published height and weight range before anything else. Luraco lists 4’7” to 6’10” and up to 300 lb for the i9 Max Plus.
- Not sure you’ll like it? Favor sellers with an in-home trial. Return shipping on a 100–360 lb chair is expensive (see the returns table below).
Massage chair terms explained
2D, 3D, 4D (and “5D”)
| Term | What it usually means |
|---|---|
| 2D | Rollers move up/down and side to side |
| 3D | Adds depth: you can set how far the rollers push out |
| 4D | Adds changing speed and rhythm to the roller movement |
| “5D” and up | Mostly a marketing label. Luraco itself notes that “if air, motor speed, music, or heat is considered a dimension” its i9 Max Plus “would be a 7D Chair” |
Track type
- S-track: the roller track follows the curve of your spine.
- L-track: the track continues under the seat to reach the glutes and upper thighs.
- SL-track: a combination of both. Osaki and Titan list SL-tracks on the Tecno and Emperor II. Luraco calls the i9 Max Plus track a “Split L-Track” and lists it at 60 inches.
Other features you’ll see
- Zero gravity recline: the chair tilts back so your legs are raised. Osaki lists “3-Stage Zero Gravity Reclining” on the Emperor II.
- Air cells (airbags): inflate to squeeze arms, legs and hips. Brand counts we found: 14 (Panasonic MAF1), 38 (Osaki Tecno), 42 (Osaki Emperor II), 56 (OHCO R.6).
- Heat: usually lumbar and/or calf heating. Human Touch describes “warm air technology” on the WholeBody 8.0.
- Space-saving / “zero wall”: the chair slides forward as it reclines, so it needs less room behind it. Human Touch lists a 9” rear clearance for the WholeBody 8.0 and 7” for the Super Novo 3.0; Furniture For Life lists the OHCO R.6 at 5” from the wall; Bodyfriend lists “Zero Wall: Yes” for the Pharaoh NEO.
Size, weight, power and delivery
Massage chairs are heavy and bulky, so measure doors, stairs and the spot where it will sit.
| Model | Chair weight | User fit (height / weight) | Upright size (L x W x H) | Reclined size (L x W x H) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Human Touch WholeBody 8.0 | 114 lb | Not published | 44” x 28” x 40” | 66” x 28” x 29” |
| Panasonic MAF1 | 160.9 lb | 4’8”–6’2” / up to 264 lb | 51.2” x 26.8” x 47.2” | 78.7” x 26.8” x 29.5” |
| OHCO R.6 | 304 lb | 5’0”–6’5” / up to 265 lb | 62.5” x 33” x 47” | 73.75” x 33” x 38.25” |
| Human Touch Super Novo 3.0 | 291 lb | Not published | 63” x 34” x 52” | 79” x 34” x 33” |
| Luraco i9 Max Plus | ~310 lb | 4’7”–6’10” / up to 300 lb | Max width ~38”, max height ~48” | Max length ~87” |
| Bodyfriend Pharaoh NEO | 364.2 lb | Up to 6’3” / up to 300 lb | 64.96” x 35.82” x 47.63” | 78.74” x 35.82” x 47.63” |
All figures as published by the brand or its official retailer. Bodyfriend’s spec sheet lists the same 47.63” height for upright and reclined; we’ve reproduced it as published.
- Power: Panasonic MAF1 and OHCO R.6 list AC 120V, 60Hz, and Bodyfriend lists 110–120V, 60Hz for the Pharaoh NEO (a standard US outlet). Luraco lists ~200 watts maximum for the i9 Max Plus and says it is UL listed. Check each model’s spec sheet and safety listing.
- Delivery: titanchair.com offers free curbside delivery or white glove delivery for $275 on the Osaki models below. Curbside means the box is left at the curb, and these boxes are heavy, so plan help or pay for white glove.

Can I use HSA or FSA money?
Sometimes, but it isn’t automatic. Human Touch says certain products can be bought with HSA/FSA funds when a healthcare provider issues a Letter of Medical Necessity (LMN), using a checkout partner (Truemed or Sika). Check with your HSA/FSA plan before counting on it.
Health and safety
Massage chairs aren’t medical devices. Human Touch’s support guidance says to consult your physician or another qualified healthcare provider before using a massage chair if you:
- have a diagnosed medical condition, or are recovering from an injury, procedure or surgery
- are pregnant
- have an implanted or external medical device, such as a pacemaker
- have concerns about heat, vibration, air compression or zero-gravity positioning
Stop using the chair and talk to your healthcare provider if you feel pain, dizziness, numbness or other unexpected symptoms. Read the safety section of your chair’s manual before first use. This is a summary of brand guidance, not medical advice.
How to choose: 6 questions
- Will it fit you? Check height and weight ranges first. A chair that doesn’t fit your body won’t hit the right spots.
- Will it fit your room? Measure the space and the rear clearance the brand lists, plus doors and stairs for delivery.
- What do you want it to do? Neck and back only, or glutes and legs too (L- or SL-track, calf rollers, foot rollers)?
- How much do you want to spend? Around $2,000 gets 3D basics; $4,000–$6,000 adds 4D and more air cells; $10,000+ is premium build and features.
- How will it arrive? Curbside vs white glove, and who carries a 100–360 lb box inside.
- What if you don’t like it? Compare return windows, restocking fees, return shipping and warranty length before you buy.
FAQ
Is a 4D chair always better than 3D? Not necessarily. “4D” and “5D” are brand labels; compare the track, coverage, fit range and warranty instead.
Do massage chairs need a special outlet? The models whose power specs we found list standard US household power (Panasonic MAF1 and OHCO R.6: AC 120V; Bodyfriend: 110–120V). Check each spec sheet.
